Cuban five unjust imprisonment exposed US behavior: politician

BRUSSELS, Sep. 16 (MNA) – The unjust imprisonment of the Cuban Five exposed the behavior of the United States, stressed Javier Couso, vice-president of the Group for Friendship and Solidarity with the People of Cuba of the European Parliament on Tuesday.

Washington did not allow family visits or denied visas, it was like a commitment to give more pain to something unjust, by making the families of those people to pay for the disputes between the island and the northern nation, he told Prensa Latina.

I heard about the case after my family suffered the impact of imperialism: the murder of my brother, who was a journalist and was covering the invasion of Iraq. On tours we do to tell the world what had happened, we docked in Cuba invited by the Union of Journalists and the Club of war correspondents, Couso detailed.

From that moment, he said, I knew firsthand the Cuban people, its history and about the case, which was virtually unknown in Spain.

It was told that was like a partnership, to understand what these five people had done, to risk their lives and freedom for their country, especially to end the terrorist attacks that the island was suffering.

We were so stricken that for my family was always important to support the five's and then claim for their freedom. It was a labor of accompaniment, to participate in actions, concerts were made in Spain, meetings, rallies, demonstrations, stressed the politician.

Their liberation is a victory of internationalism because virtually all solidarity people in the world engaged. For us it is a joy and a triumph, we live it in an amazing way. I remember the words of Fidel Castro when he said: They will return. He said the same in the case of Elian and it was accomplished, he said.

The also deputy chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament, stressed that from the Plural Left parliamentary group, to which he belongs, they are focused on removing the so-called common position against Cuba, the only one in the European Union against a country in the world.

On the other hand, he said, we seek a real restoration of relations between Havana and Washington, which passes through the lifting of the blockade imposed by the US government, and the return of the territory of Guantánamo, in eastern Cuba, in which its illegal Naval Base is installed.

Only from that moment on, it could be spoken of normal relations between the two countries. The island never attacked the United States. Therefore, we think a new space should be opened and this is a battle that remains, he said.
