In a press conference on Monday, Majid Majidi, the very renowned Iranian filmmaker, announced that his latest work 'Muhammad: The Messenger of Allah' will get on silver screens of 143 theaters across Iran and shortly after will be screened in Montreal Film Festival.
On the motive behind such an epic masterpiece, Majidi recounted that in 2006 he was invited to a Danish film festival to be praised for his works but he declined the invitation due to insulting cartoons published in Denmark sending them a message: “I believe in God and live with my beliefs in every single moment of my life.”
Afterward, as Majidi told the reporters, he delved deep into thoughts why should not Muslims demonstrate the real peacemaking image of their religion to the world while they are offended so harshly.
Referring to Moustapha Al Akkad’s The Message (1977), Majidi lamented that 42 years took to have another major work on the Prophet of Islam.
"All these thoughts pushed me to start an ambitious project seven years ago," said Majidi the director of many internationally acclaimed films like Children of Heaven (which was nominated for best foreign language Oscar in 1998) and The Colour of Paradise.
About the reactions to the film, the Iranian filmmaker reassured that the life period to be depicted in the film is Prophet Muhammad’s childhood and the history is not diverse about this span and the film has got a unifying approach toward Islamic history.
On criticism made earlier by some other Muslim entities, Majidi invited them to watch the film and let it be judged then after affirming that nowhere in the film the face of the Prophet is shown.
Started in 2007, the film production has seen many international figures on its set including cinematographer Vittorio Storaro, costume designer Michael O’Connor, and Indian musician Allah-Rakha Rahman.
