Granting asylum to a man for playing a role in one of the acts of the play was a contemptuous measure taken by the Canadian government.
Shahram Azam, a man who loves being called “doctor”, has tricked the Canadian government into giving him a residence permit to live in his paradise.
To accomplish this, playing the role of a physician, he told some false stories to Ottawa. However, it is odd that the Canadian media as well as some Canadian politicians have been fooled by his tall tales.
Unfortunately, the Canadian government has hired an amateur actor without taking the consequences of their action into account.
Canada’s media prescriptions for the government and the indefensible remarks by Canadian officials about the Zahra Kazemi case will only confuse the issue, even for the Canadian government. It would be wiser for Ottawa to abandon this ridiculous political game.
Calling for economic sanctions, summoning the Canadian ambassador from Tehran, expelling the Iranian ambassador from Canada, pressuring Iran through the United Nations and other international organizations, and reducing the level of bilateral relations with Iran are some of the Canadian media’s suggestions for Ottawa.
It is not clear why the Canadian media has once again resorted to political maneuvers and called for the Canadian ambassador to be summoned from Tehran. But then again, the Canadian government has been trying to present a false image of the Islamic Republic of Iran for some time now.
Granting asylum to members of the terrorist Mojahedin Khalq Organization (MKO), advocating the ratification of a resolution against the Islamic Republic of Iran for violating human rights, raising a ballyhoo about Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities, mistreating Iranians residing in Canada, and finally, failing to properly investigate the murder of Iranian national Keyvan Tabesh, are some of Canada’s measures against Iran. But now the false claims of an amateur liar have provided another excuse for Canada to repeat its undiplomatic actions.
It is not clear what the Canadian government has gained from its previous actions that it is again taking a similar course. A country that enjoys the benefits of abundant resources, an educated populace, and the culture of Iranians residing in Canada should not insult the dignity of Iranians by granting a residence permit to a con man.
How long is the Iranian Foreign Ministry going to patiently put up with the treachery of the Canadian government? If Canada can not understand the conditions of bilateral relations, why should the Islamic Republic of Iran have to pay the price?
If Canadian officials intend to use media pressure to harm Tehran-Ottawa relations, they should bear in mind that Canada will be the big loser in the end.
