Zarif to visit India

TEHRAN, Aug. 10(MNA) – India’s MEA Sushma Swaraj broke the news of receiving her Iranian counterpart in a coming visit on August 14.

In line with his regional countries tour, Iranian Foreign Minister is expected to arrive in New Delhi on August 14 to consolidate ties and improve the current status of cooperation with neighboring countries.

In an interview with India Today, Indian Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj told the media that New Delhi expects Zarif on Friday.

Bilateral relations, regional and international developments in the region especially after the nuclear agreement of July 14 between Iran and 5+1, are expected to come up during the meeting between the two foreign ministers.

India is among Asia’s major importers of energy and relies on Iran to meet a portion of its energy demand. Iran was the second largest supplier of India’s crude before the tightening of US-led sanctions against Tehran about two years ago.

In January 2015, India’s imports from Iran more than doubled, surging to 412,000 barrels per day (bpd), up from 189,100 bpd in December.

The figure, which was the highest since February 2012, was also 44 percent higher compared with the same period last year.
