15th Premier League:

New Season starts with 5 draws, 3 wins

New Season starts with 5 draws, 3 wins

TEHRAN, Aug. 01 (MNA) – At the end of the first week of IPL 2015-16, there are only three winners and just 13 goals scored.

Out of 8 encounters in the first day of Iran’s 15th edition of Persian Gulf Pro League, three matches had winners and the rest were drawn.

In the first day of the new season on Friday July 31, FC Malavan of Anzali with their new manager edge passed FC Zobahan of Isfahan at home in extreme humidity of the port city of Anzali to revive Ghalenoie’s reputation after his unsuccessful last season in Esteqlal of Tehran.

Tractorsazi and Naft of Tehran played a sans-excitement match of goalless draw despite the expectations for a fervid fight as their 3-3 draw of the final day of the former season which cost the two clubs the league title.

Persepolis with huge sum spent in preparation, and led by former Iran’s national team Croatian manager Branko Ivanković disappointed the spectators with a 2-2 draw at home in Azadi Stadium.

The reds of Tehran enjoyed 20,000 fans in Azadi but their early lead was equalized at 11th minute, and even they were lagging behind their guest just 5 minutes later with Badamaki’s header at 16th minute.

In Ghadeer Stadium of Ahvaz, Mow’oud Bonyadifar blew the opening whistle of the match between Foulad of Khuzestan and Rahahan of Tehran in 19:35, when the sun had lost much of its dangerous heat, in front of 3000 fans.

The two teams shared the points as they drew 2-2 after 90 minutes of fight in hot summer day in southern western provincial capital. The draw was a blow to the guest Rahahan which was leading 2-0 ahead till 80th minute, but the two goals saved Dragan Skočić’s squad from losing a home very early in the season.

This season of Persian Gulf Pro League (IPL 2015–16) is the 45th season of the Iran’s Football League. FC Sepahan of Isfahan is the defending champions. The season features 14 teams from the 2014–15 Iran Pro League and two new teams promoted from the 2014–15 Azadegan League: Siah Jamegan as Group A champion and Foolad Novin as Group B champion.
