On the sidelines of the 10th summit of the Inter-Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Member States in Turkey, Ali Larijani met with his Iraqi counterpart Salim al-Jabouri.
Larijani, pointing to Iran’s support for Iraq in fighting terrorism and establishing unity and stability, stressed that Iraq is a democratic country and its issues have to be resolved by its own government and its own nation.
He also emphasized on the necessity of extending Iran-Iraq political and economic relations.
Iraqi speaker of parliament, for his part, expressed pleasure over his meeting with Larijani and described these meetings as an opportunity to expand mutual ties further.
Al-Jabouri said the committees of Inter-Parliamentary Union have been activated in some fields in Iraq and that Iraq is looking for hosting the next summit.
Iraqi official, while stating that Iran is a perpetual supporter of unity among Islamic countries, asserted Iran and Iraq have always condemned terrorism and the two cuntries have to try to uproot terrorism and extremism in the region.
