The UN General Assembly which groups all 191 UN member states expressed concern over the issue of human rights in Iran on Monday approving the resolution 71-54 with 55 abstentions.
Calling the resolution “politically motivated” and “unrealistic”, Asefi said that the resolution is undocumented and doesn’t reflect the realities in Iran.
The spokesman said the resolution has been formulated based on unreliable reports and therefore it lacks any validity.
The resolution is in line with the political intentions of a small number of countries who have faced “political disappointment” in their relations with Tehran and it is in no way a reflection of the political-social realities in Iran’s current society, he stressed.
The spokesman added that the number of votes in favor of the resolution indicate that a large number of countries are opposed to political abuse of human rights mechanisms.
Promoting human rights situation in Iran is an important goal, Asefi went on to say, stressing that Iran has always tried to improve its status in this regard.
