Iranian duo win silver & bronze in IPC Athletics World Championship

TEHRAN, Jan. 26 (MNA) -- Iran’s Javad Hardani and his compatriot Farzad Sepahvand claimed silver and bronze medals in the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Hardani won the silver in men’s javelin f37/38 with a throw of 46.15 meters.Xuelong Zhang continued China’s domination with a throw of 53.04m, a new championships record, and Petr Vratil of the Czech Republic took the silver with 41.81m.
 

In discus f44, British Daniel Greaves was the dominant performer of the day. He smashed his own world record by more than three meters. His throw of 58.98m eclipsed his previous mark of 55.53m set in Manchester six years ago.
 
Jeremy Campbell from United States claimed silver with a throw of 53.40m with the bronze going to Farzad Sepahvand of Iran with 53.12m.
 
Hardani and Jalal Khakzadieh had already won bronze medals in discus throw. 
 
The 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships has brought together more than 1,000 athletes from 70 countries.
 
Iran has competed in the event with 10 participants. The event will run to January 30.
 
The competition will serve as a qualifier for the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.
