Jalili, Ashton hold phone conversation ahead of Moscow talks

TEHRAN, June 12 (MNA) – Just one week before negotiators from Iran and the major head to Moscow to resume talks European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton and Iran’s Supreme National Security Council secretary held phone conversations late on Monday in efforts to help negotiations achieve a tangible progress.

Ashton said the 5+1 group 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany), is ready to hold talks on Iran’s five proposals, which comprise both nuclear and non-nuclear issues.

Ashton who leads the major powers in talks with Iran expressed hope that a “common point” could be reached based on proposals presented by each side during the negotiations in Moscow on June 18 and 19.

For his part, Jalili said the 5+1 group’s unpreparedness for talks at the level of experts and chief negotiators’ deputies over the last 20 days has delayed the move toward a “constructive dialogue”.

Jalili also insisted on the need to abide by the agreements made during the talks in Istanbul on April 14 and in Baghdad on May 23-24.

He said the Iranian negotiating team will clearly elaborate on Iran’s proposals in Moscow, insisting that that “proper response” to Iran’s proposals will lead to a breakthrough in talks.
