Kiarostami to preside over Middle East festival jury

TEHRAN, Oct. 5 (MNA) -- Abbas Kiarostami has been appointed as head of the Narrative Feature Competition jury of the Middle East International Film Festival (MEIFF).

Held annually by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, the festival will run from October 10 to 19 in Abu-Dhabi.

 

Actress Joan Chen, producers Sunil Doshi and Michael Fitzgerald, Producer, directors Mohamed Khan and Nayla Al Khaja will be the members of jury at the Narrative Feature Competition Section.

 

The documentary filmmaker James Longley will lead the Documentary Feature Competition jury and Yousry Nasrallah will serve as president of the Shorts Competition Jury.

 

“It’s gratifying that some of the leading names in international filmmaking have agreed to participate in the difficult but rewarding work of determining which of our outstanding entries will walk away with some of the most generous prizes any festival offers. In this task, we’re happy that they’ll be joined by some new talents as well,” said Peter Scarlet, MEIFF Executive Director in the festival’s website.

 

MEIFF’S three juries are comprised of some of the top global filmmakers, over half of whom are from the Arab world. Additional countries represented include Canada, China, India, Iran, and the United States.
