The documentary also contains scenes from films directed by Masud Kimiaii, Dariush Mehrjuii, Fereidun Goleh, Ali Hatami, Abbas Kiarostami, and Ebrahim Golestan, before and after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, and filmmakers review the films.
“I experienced something unexpected during the production of the film, which contains portions of films produced during the 1980s and 1990s, and that is that such films are now becoming scarce,” Rastin said.
“In some cases, no copies of certain films from the 1980s are available and it appears the cinema of the decade is rapidly fading away,” he added.
“Mud-Brick and Mirrors” is a part of “Tehran in Arts,” a project arranged by the Art and Cultural Organization of the Municipality of Tehran to scrutinize Tehran’s image in the fields of poetry, literature, photography, theater, sculpture, and painting.
Piruz Kalantari, Ahmad Mirehsan, Robert Safarian, Taha Shojanuri, Bahman Kiarostami, and Roshank Sadr have directed documentaries in the abovementioned fields.
