In a meeting with Singapore's Non-Resident Ambassador to Iran Gopinath Pillai, Borujerdi described Iran-Singapore relations as satisfactory and expressed hope that bilateral ties would expand in light of the current potential.
The Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee chairman expressed hope that the United States would act more wisely in the international arena in view of the recent changes in Congress that came about largely due to the people’s dissatisfaction with the hawkish policies of President George W. Bush.
Pillai said, “Singapore regards Iran as a powerful and politically influential country in the Middle East and calls for the promotion of ties with the Islamic Republic in various areas.”
He went on to say that Singapore supports Iran’s civilian nuclear program.
“Singapore, like Tehran, is opposed to nuclear weapons and believes that using nuclear technology for peaceful purposes is the right of every NPT (nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty) signatory.”
