France closes Paris' Louvre Museum for 'security reasons'

TEHRAN, Oct. 14 (MNA) – Citing security concerns, Paris’ iconic Louvre Museum on Saturday abruptly closed its doors to the public.

"For security reasons, the Musee du Louvre is closing its doors today, Saturday, October 14," the museum said on X, without giving further details, Anadolu Agency reports.

The Louvre boasts some of the world’s most famous artworks, including the Venus de Milo, Raft of the Medusa, and the Mona Lisa.

"Those who have booked a visit during the day will be reimbursed. Thank you for your understanding," it added.

Videos on social media showed visitors being hurriedly evacuated from the museum

Last week security was reinforced around places of worship, schools, and monuments in several cities in France, especially Paris and its suburbs, amid intense clashes between the Palestinian Resistance group Hamas and Zionist forces.

The conflict began last Saturday when Hamas initiated Operation Al-Aqsa Storm-- a multi-pronged surprise attack including a barrage of rocket launches and infiltrations into Israel via land, sea, and air.

Hamas said the operation was in retaliation for the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Al-Quds and Zionist settlers’ growing violence against Palestinians.

The Health Ministry in Gaza announced on Friday that at least 1,900 Palestinians, including 614 children, and 370 women have been martyred in seven days of incessant Israeli bombardment of the blockaded territory.

At least 7,696 Palestinians have also been wounded in the bombardment.
