Iran Will Repay Japan for $3m Credit Line

TEHRAN (Mehr News Agency) – Iran will repay Japan for the 3-million-dollar credit line it provided three years ago, Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zangeneh said after a cabinet meeting here Wednesday.

Iran has not offered oil deals to India or any other country, stated the minister. Asked about the 8 oilfields in the Persian Gulf, Zangeneh said that the tender would be offered later, adding that it is not clear whether sufficient oil resources will be found to make the projects profitable.

When asked about the Azadegan oilfield, the minister only said, “I will not speak about the Azadegan oilfield.”

An Indian website reported on Monday that the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) had been awarded Farsi exploration blocks.

Despite the minister’s statements, the managing director of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), Mahdi Mir-Mo'ezzi, told reporters yesterday that the talks with the Indian and Chinese oil companies focused on development of the northern part of Azadegan and Cheshmeh Khosh oil fields.

Mir-Mo'ezzi added that talks are now in their early stages and that Iran is seeking to give those countries better access to its liquefied natural gas (LNG) and gas markets.
