Rumi’s works are all in Persian not Turkish: culture minister

TEHRAN, Aug. 19 (MNA) -- Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad-Hossein Saffar-Harandi said here on Saturday that all of the works of Molana Rumi are in Persian and Turkey has exaggerated its role in the celebration of the 800th birthday anniversary of the Persian mystic and poet.

“The Development Council of the Persian Language, the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology, and the Ministry of Education are preparing for the celebration in Iran,” Saffar-Harandi told reporters at a press conference held to explain his ministry’s activities as Government Week (August 24-30) approaches.

UNESCO plans to celebrate the 800th birthday anniversary of Molana Jalal al-Din Rumi (1207-1273) in 2007, and Afghanistan, Egypt, and Turkey will be the organizers of the program.
