Japanese globetrotter promoting peace on two-wheeler

TEHRAN, July 11 (MNA) – Keiichi Iwasaki left his hometown Guma, some 100km north of Tokyo, in April 2001 to cycle around the world to promote peace.

The 33-year-old air-conditioning engineer is funding his odysseys by doing magic in different cities as he performed some tricks at the MNA office Monday.

Iwasaki also aims to get familiar with different peoples, cultures, and languages.

To him, races, religions, and cultures are not obstacles to friendship and understanding and respecting each other’s values help establish global peace.

During his five-year tour, he has so far passed through South Korea, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Laos, Tibet, Nepal, India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.

The strong-willed Iwasaki scaled the Mt. Everest peak on May 31, 2005 when he was in Nepal.

His parents flew to the kingdom to see their son there.

He entered Iran through southeastern capital Zahedan and pedaled to the quake-devastated Bam, Kerman, Yazd, Isfahan, Shiraz, Isfahan, Qom, and Tehran.

Imam Square in the historical city of Isfahan is among the world’s tourist attractions and the huge pillars in Persepolis in southern capital Shiraz are glorious,” the fascinated Iwasaki opined.

Asked about Iranian people, the jack-of-all-trades called them very nice and kind.

“Iranians are very hospitable and many of them invited me to break bread at their homes.”

Cycling 70 to 100km per day, the Japanese is scheduled to leave Iran for Turkey and travel to Europe, South America, and North America and return to Japan within the next five years.
