Saudi FM summons Lebanese envoy over ISIL-related comments

TEHRAN, May 19 (MNA) – Saudi Arabia foreign ministry summoned the Lebanese ambassador on Tuesday after the Lebanese caretaker FM blamed the Persian Gulf states for the rise of the ISIL terrorist group in Iraq and Syria.

Saudi Arabia's foreign ministry summoned Lebanon's ambassador on Tuesday to hand over a memorandum protesting against what it described as "offenses" made by caretaker foreign minister Charbel Wehbe.

According to the Reuters news agency, Wehbe threatened to stoke new tensions in a television interview on Monday, when he appeared to blame the Persian Gulf states for the rise of ISIL terrorist group in Iraq and neighboring Syria.
