Iran’s amb. to Lebanon meets with UN coordinator

TEHRAN, Dec. 22 (MNA) – Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon met and talked with Pernille Dahler Kardel the new UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, on Thursday evening and the two sides emphasized the need to maintain stability and security in Lebanon.

In a meeting held at the Iranian embassy in Beirut, Mohammd Fathali, described the Zionist regime and the Takfiri terrorist groups as two main threats to Lebanon and the region, saying that Lebanon has been able to repulse threats through its national capacities, especially the "nation, army and resistance" triangle.

In another part of his remarks, Fathali hailed the role of the United Nations in Lebanon's stability and security against threats and expressed the readiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran to cooperate with the UN office in Lebanon.

Pernille Dahler Kardel brings 25 years of experience in diplomacy, political affairs, international cooperation and economic development, spanning several continents. Most recently, Kardel served as Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) since 2016. She is now serving as Acting United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon.
