Europeans stand firmly in face of US pressure on JCPOA

TEHRAN, Aug. 28 (MNA) – Former Minister of Communication and current Chief of Staff of the President of Iran Mahmoud Vaezi said the US President Donald Trump’s acts are not in accordance with any principles.

Mahmoud Vaezi made the remark to IRIB on Sunday night, adding JCPOA is not a goal for us, but a means to be protected and taken advantage of.

“The measures and acts of Trump does not fit any principles or framework," said Chief of Staff of the President of Iran, referring to the words of the president of the United States.

He said that a great efforts have been made for JCPOA, and if we lacked the support and guidance of the Leader of Islamic Revolution, the immediate management of President Rouhani and the people's support, this great success would not have been achieved.

Calling JCPOA a ‘national success’, Vaezi added that the Americans, in particular Trump, who is a merchant and a businessman instead of a politician, have repeatedly and frankly stated that the Islamic Republic of 'Iran has tricked US over the nuclear deal.'

Underlining the need for protecting what has been achieved, Vaezi said undoubtedly US has breached promises about JCPOA, however, the US is not the whole thing. “US is isolating itself in its conduct with JCPOA, since the deal is a consensus that is welcomed,” he noted.

Vaezi added that the United States either wants to break the deal or leave it making excuses, which in any case is standing against Europe and the whole world.

"We are not concerned about the Americans' breach of pledges, because the Europeans stand firmly in the face of American pressure and believe that this is an international effort,” he noted.

Regarding the visits to the military sites, Vaezi said "Iran’s cooperation with the IAEA is clear and we have repeatedly stated to the Agency that Iran does not accept anything that is contrary to its national security, and now it holds the same politics yet."

Touching upon the inspections that Americans have requested of Iran's military sites, he said the framework for cooperation is clear in JCPOA and there is no concern over the issue.

Vaezi said that in the past and present no one has been allowed to enter into anything related to the national security and military sector of the country.
