Iran to voice stabilizing policy at Oslo Forum

OSLO, Jun. 12 (MNA) – Iran’s FM Zarif noted the recent tensions between some regional countries, distressing the necessity of international efforts to prevent a new crisis in Middle East.

Speaking to reporters upon arrival in Norway to take part at Oslo Forum, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the annual forum provides an opportunity to discuss important international issues, particularly about security, peace-building and prevention of breakout of hostilities.

“My presence in the opening of Oslo Forum on Tuesday will give me an opportunity to discuss the principled positions of the new Iranian government as a seeker of peace and stability in region and the world,” Zarif added.

He went on to add, “at the meetings, we will focus on regional issues which are highly alarming at the moment. A unified fight is needed against extremism and terrorism which have severely endangered our region and threaten the international community, as well.”

When asked about possible talks of JCPOA at his meeting with EU policy chief Federica Mogherini this afternoon, Zarif said he will raise complaints about the US lack of commitment to the nuclear deal, although the main focus of today’s talks will be on regional issues that are a priority for the international community.

He went on to add, “the EU, China and Russia are the main advocates of the JCPOA and have repeatedly voiced resolve for maintaining ties with Iran regardless of US positions.”

“What is in fact of significance to us is that Americans cannot undermine our relations with the world,” he stressed.

“The US Senate sanctions bill against Iran shows the Americans’ shortsightedness and follows the same wrong policy that the US government has adopted, especially after the recent election,” Zarif said.

The Iranian top diplomat assured that the parliament, foreign ministry, Supreme National Security Council, and the committee monitoring the implementation of the nuclear deal will pursue countermeasures for the Senate anti-Iranian decisions.
