Attracting over 300 martial art players from 25 world countries, the eighth edition of the sportive event was held from November 10 to 14 in the Indian city of Kochi.
National junior Iranian kurash team clinched one bronze, three silver and two gold medals to stand on the second podium overall.
Uzbekistan won the title with 5 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medal while Japanese athletes landed in the third place with 1 silver and 1 bronze.
Javad Moradi (-81kg) and Ghasem Baghchi (-90kg) snatched gold trophies for the Iranian squad while Abdolvahab Vahabian (-100kg), Amirhossein Ghasemi (+100kg) and Jafar Firouzabadi (-66kg) added three silvers to Iran’s tally of medals. Meanwhile, Iran’s only bronze medal was scooped by Alimohammad Barimanlu.
The Iranian outfit was led by Reza Mahnan as the head coach while Ali Malumat and Hossein Akbari accompanied junior athletes as coaches.
Participants at the 8th World Junior Kurash Championship, who fought each other for honors in the five-day event, came from a wide variety of countries including Iran, Australia, Japan, Korea, US, Vietnam, England, Chinese Taipei, Nepal and Srilanka.
