Intelligence, security bodies critical for curbing regional crises

TEHRAN, Oct. 03 (MNA) – Secretary of Iran SNSC stressed the critical role of intelligence and security bodies in managing the increasing security threats by terrorist elements in region.

Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), made the remark in a meeting with Mustafa Kazmi, Head of the Iraqi National Intelligence Service, on Sunday in Tehran.

Shamkhani referred to the continuing triumph of the Iraqi army and popular forces against Takfiri terrorism and physical elimination of ISIL from various parts of the country, adding “the improved security situation on the battlefields will increase the security threats by terrorist elements, therefore the role of intelligence and security bodies will become even more critical for controlling the situation.”

Shamkhani expressed Iran’s readiness for transferring its intelligence and security experiences to Iraq for combating terrorism, adding “the establishment of sustainable security in Iraq is one of the unchangeable priorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

The Iranian senior official further maintained that West’s participation for providing regional security is a ‘big lie’, saying the deadly and costly consequences of that kind of participation can be witnessed in many countries in the region.

“Assisting allied terrorist groups out of predicaments and protecting terrorist elements under the label of ‘moderate opposition’ for advancing political goals is the only approach that the US is pursuing in the Syrian crisis,” he stressed.

Mustafa Kazmi, for his part, expressed his satisfaction with the effective role of Iran in fighting terrorism and boosting stability and security in the region, adding “Iran’s achievement in combating terrorism and maintaining security inside the country and on its borders is itself a clear proof of the unparalleled efficiency of Iran’s security model.”

“Increasing the continuous exchange of intelligence and joint cooperation among regional countries to eradicate terrorist groups is an inevitable approach,” he stressed.
