Iranian swimmers shine at DIAC 2016

TEHRAN, Apr. 06 (MNA) – Iranian swimmers have offered brilliant performances at 2016 Dubai International Aquatic Championships (DIAC) earning ten medals and establishing new national records.

National swimming team of Iran has taken part in various events so far in DIAC 2016 putting in excellent performances and managed to earn 10 colorful medals setting new national records.

Erfan Moghaddam, Alireza Amin Zomorrodi as well as Arshia Moradi marked the gold winners for the Iranian squad while Mehran Ghasemzadeh, Ali Fathi, Erfan Moghaddam and Aria Nasimishad earned silver medals in different age categories followed by Saman Sepiddast, Jamal Chavoshifar, Amirabbas Amrollahi as well as Mehran Ghasemzadeh who stood on the third podium in various events.

On Monday, Erfan Moghaddam out powered in the boy’s 50 meters freestyle (the 12-13 age category) at Hamdan Sports Complex in Dubai and won the title.

Alireza Amin Zomorrodi won another gold medal for Iran in the same event, but in the 14-15 age group.

In the boy’s 200-meter butterfly (the 12-13 age category), Arshia Moradi earned the third gold medal for the Iranian outfit.

Benyamin Gharreh-Hassanlou finished in 23.99 seconds in the preliminary round of boy’s 50 meters freestyle, registering a new record in the 15-17 age category.

Gharreh-Hassanlou repeated his outstanding display in the final session of the stroke and clocked 23.91 to establish his second record standing on the silver podium.

Swimming in the boy’s 200-meter butterfly (the 12-13 age category), Mehran Ghasemzadeh also finished in the second place.

Moreover, Ali Fathi bagged a bronze medal in the final of boy’s 200-meter backstroke (the 14-15 age group).

Aria Nasimishad in boy’s 100-meter butterfly (the 15-17 age category) clocked one minutes and four seconds to improve the national record by 0.12 seconds and was awarded the silver medal.

In boy’s 50-meter backstroke, Jamal Chavoshifar turned in a time of 26.28 seconds at the open age to set a new record for the country.

The other record-breaker was Mahdi Ansari who clocked 25.09 seconds in the first 50 meters of 100-meter butterfly in order to better Iran’s record after four years while he finished in 55.08 overall to beat the national record of the event.

Dubai International Aquatic Championships (DIAC) 2016 opened in the United Arab Emirates on March 29, and will finish on April 7.

The event is organized by the UAE Swimming Federation with the support of Dubai Sports Council and Hamdan Sports Complex.
