Head of Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi made the remark Monday night, following his visit of Ayat. Abbas Vaez Tabasi, overseer of Imam Reza's Shrine in Mashhad, at Imam Reza Hospital.
Speaking to reporters, Boroujerdi referred to the high voter turnout in Iran’s twin elections on 26 Feb., saying “people’s enthusiastic participation in the elections indicates their unshaken loyalty and love for the establishment.”
“The fact that people by casting their votes have the final word on the elections is one of the most pivotal features of the establishment,” he said.
The senior official maintained that the 10th Parliament is balanced while the majority of seats are taken by the Principalists, adding “definitely, there will be no repeat of the 6th Parliament this time around.”
Based on the final count of 3,246,991 votes, all the 30 parliamentary seats for Tehran constituency have been won by reformist figures with former vice president Mohammad Reza Aref leading the parliamentary list. The Principlists camp has made major gains in other parts of the country.
Ali Larijani was appointed Speaker of Parliament in 2008, succeeding Gholamali Haddad Adel.
Elsewhere, referring to the health condition of Ayat. Tabasi, Boroujerdi said “ I hope he will regain his health through Divine Providence and people’s prayers.”
Ayat. Tabasi, influential Iranian cleric and Chairman of the Astan Quds Razavi, Imam Reza Holy Shrine in Mashahd, suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and apnea on Friday, and was admitted to Imam Reza Hospital in Mashhad. He is currently in a deep coma.
