Speaking at a meeting with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani referred to the official implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) adding “bilateral relations between Iran and Germany need to be escalated taking advantage of post-JCPOA and post sanction opportunities particularly in view of the fact that Germany has once been Iran’s first trade partner among the European Union member countries.”
Rouhani emphasized the need to planning a long-term cooperation between Tehran and Berlin asserting “Iran has followed a common strategy on the path of signing and implementing cooperation agreements also having reached a deal on long-term road-map for collaboration with a number of other countries.”
Iranian President maintained that grounds are ready for joint cooperation in various sectors including industry, mining, energy, rail road transit as well as tourism in which Germans can have a more prominent participation.
Referring to the positive and constructional role of Germany during the course of nuclear talks, Hassan Rouhani underlined “exact and rapid implementation of JCPOA end in the benefit of all sides and more efforts are required to consolidate the foundations of the consensus."
“JCPOA, as a successful model, has provided a positive atmosphere in the international arena for cooperation and discourse on other issues,” noted the official calling application of win-win equation for resolving other regional issues.
President Rouhani further highlighted that “in addition to strengthening bilateral ties, Iran and Germany can pool resources to find a solution to regional and international problems particularly in fight against terrorism as well as bringing peace and stability to the region.
“Terrorism remains as a major threat which needs to be dealt with and the recent events over the past few months have proved that terrorism marks a menace to all including the EU,” mentioned Rouhani emphasizing that terrorists must be prevented access to funds and weapons.
The German FM Frank-Walter Steinmeier, for his part, stressed the opening of a new chapter in the relations between the EU and Germany with the official enactment of JCPOA saying “Berlin is determined to reinvigorate ties with Tehran in all political, economic, cultural and educational areas.”
He pointed out his two visits to Tehran over the past three months deeming it as a sign of his country’s willingness towards comprehensive development of cooperation with Iran; “majority of large German firms are eager to take part in Iran’s market for investment as well as joint collaboration.”
“Over the past year, a total of 10 large political and economic delegations of Germany have travelled to the Islamic Republic of Iran holding talks with partners,” maintained the official stating “currently, another eight delegations are in line of making a visit to Tehran and the trips will clear the path for joint investments.
Steinmeier also highlighted the issue of terrorism as well as the need to confront it; “the venues for growth and development of the horrible phenomenon need to be eliminated with confronting extremism in the region remains being a possible ground in this regard,” he concluded.
