Iran’s national squad faced Bahrain on Wednesday in Doha’s Dohail Sports Hall during Rio 2016 Olympic qualifiers, and win the match 35-30 which was led by Iran’s former manager Borut Macek, thus securing a place in final.
In the first match, Iran had defeated Oman 39-31. In the second match, the boys of Irfan Smajlagic defeated Uzbekistan 33-18, and did the same against Japan, 31-17. The hosting team Qatar however succeeded in defeating Iran 32-17, but Saudi Arabia was again defeated by Iran 30-24.
Iran’s final match will be with the winner of Qatar-South Korea. Now, Iran’s handball had only steps toward Rio 2016, which however requires a great feat of defeating one of Qatar or South Korea in the final match. The second and third teams will have the second chance for Olympics by testing again their odds in intercontinental competitions.
