Grounds paved for Iran- S Africa trade coop.

TEHRAN, Nov. 09 (MNA) – Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said that South Africa and Iran have the capacity to expand ties in many fields.

The Speaker made the remarks on Sunday during a meeting with South Africa's Deputy President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa.

Larijani told Ramaphosa that close ties with South Africa is significant for Iran and his country play a vital role in expanding the relations. The two countries have enjoyed ‘good’ economic ties, he said.

He also added that Iran can help the country in the energy sector while South Africa can invest in Iran’s industry, gas and oil.

The two countries can help each other in defense and sanitation sectors, Larijani underlined.

The Iranian official expressed his concern over the crises in African states and hoped that the tensions would end soon and the roots of insecurity and terrorism will be eradicated across the world.

Ramaphosa, for his part, said he was glad to visit Iran and meet the Iranian officials. He added that South Africa has always supported the Islamic Republic, adding, "we believe that Iranians are powerful people who stand for their rights and JCPOA indeed proofs the matter."

In the post sanctions era, the two countries can start new ties in new fields including trade, investment and banking, he noted.

The African official added that Iran has always supported his country and in the time of Nelson Mandela’s death, a delegation from Iran paid to visit to South Africa.

Noting the expansion of terrorism, he added “South Africa has always sought peace and supported participation in peaceful activities.”
