Jasmine filmfest. saves youth from execution

TEHRAN, Oct. 06 (MNA) – Iran’s Jasmine International Film Festival (JIFF) saved an 18-year-old youth charged with murder from execution.

Last year, during the second edition of Jasmine International Film Festival (JIFF), the festival’s organizers were informed that an 18-year-old youth was on a death row on charges of murder and would soon face execution unless he could pay the blood money of about 140,000 dollars to the victim's family.

With consultations of the festival’s Director Hossein Mosafer Astaneh and Head of Cinema Organization Hojjatollah Ayoubi, it was decided that with the help from filmmakers the money required to save the youth from the death sentence would be collected and given to the victim's family.

In the past few days and after one year, it was finally announced that the required money was given to the victim’s family and their consent to withdraw the death sentence has been obtained.

Organized by Iran’s Visual Media Institute in collaboration with Ministry of Culture, JIFF will enjoy its third edition this year on September 23-28 in Iranian northern province of Mazandaran. More than 160 films from various countries including France, US, Germany, Spain, Argentina, Japan, England, Singapore, Belgium, Austria, Russia, Canada, and New Zealand will be competing in the festival.
