The meeting will take place in the middle of tensions between the two countries, due to the role played by the United States and its allies in the Ukrainian conflict, as well as the increased armed operations of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) near the Russian border, actions that according to Russia represent a threat to its security.
Other differences are related to the war in Syria, the management of which has claimed that the United States is supporting the armed groups that try to overthrow President Bashar Al Assad.
The United States stated that Russia sends means and advisers to Syria seeking to support the authorities, but Putin assures that the goal of these actions is to tighten the fight against the terrorist group ISIL, against which the United States and its allies have launched a campaign of air strikes since last year.
