Iran, Turkmenistan sign various MoUs

TEHRAN, Jul. 28 (MNA) – During the 14th Iran-Turkmenistan Joint Economic Commission, the two sides inked a number of memorandums in various sectors of economy, culture, education and transportation.

Iranian Minister of Road and Urban Development Abbas Akhundi who represented Iran at the two-day Joint Economic Commission with Turkmenistan said that Iran is keen on expanding constructive interaction with the world.

He further added that the development of economic cooperation would guarantee the regional security and promotion of relations among nations.

The commission which follows the recent nuclear agreement between Iran and the 5+1, defines the Islamic Republic’s policy on developing regional and international relations, he said.

“During the two-day meeting, some good negotiations took place on various projects including Tajan-Sarakhs highway, Ashgabat to Turkmenabat highway, stepping up exports, facilitating border transactions, passing 10m tons of cargo from Kazakhstan via railroad and boosting the volume of trade between Tehran and Ashgabat,” said Akhundi.

At the wrap-up of the 14th Joint Economic Cooperation Commission of Iran and Turkmenistan, various MoUs in the fields of economy, culture, education and transportation were signed by Iranian Minister of Road and Urban Development Abbas Akhundi and Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Muradov.

On Sunday, Muradov met with Iran's Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh in Tehran to discuss further expansion of trade exchanges between Tehran and Ashgabat.

On the sidelines of their meeting, Iran's deputy oil minister for international affairs and trade Amir Hossein Zamaninia said the Islamic Republic is ready to sign about $1 billion worth of contracts with Turkmenistan for the export of technical and engineering goods and services to the Central Asian country.

The 14th session of Iran-Turkmenistan Joint Economic Commission opened in Tehran on Saturday and wrapped up on July 27.
