Zarif meets senior Shia clerics in Najaf

TEHRAN, Jul. 27 (MNA) – Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Monday met with four senior Shia clerics in Iraqi city of Najaf.

Zarif visited Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani, Ayatollah Seyed Mohammad Saeed Hakim, Sheikh Is'hagh Fayyaz and Sheikh Bashir Najafi today in Najaf, as part of his visit to Iraq in third leg of his regional tour.

The senior religious leaders expressed satisfaction over the nuclear agreement between Iran and the 5+1.

They also underlined the expansion of bilateral and regional ties in order to combat against terrorism and extremism.

After his meetings in Najaf, Zarif departed for Baghdad to hold talks with senior Iraqi government officials.

He is due to meet with his Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim al-Jaafari, President Fuad Massoum, Premier Haider al-Abadi, Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri and Head of Islamic Supreme Council Seyed Ammar al-Hakim.
