Bahraini envoy summoned over claims of Iran interference

TEHRAN, May 18 (MNA) – Bahrain’s charge d’affaires to Tehran was summoned to the Foreign Ministry on Thursday to hear Iran’s concerns about the course of events in the Persian Gulf sheikhdom.

During his meeting with the Bahraini envoy, a Foreign Ministry official dismissed the recent claims by Bahraini Foreign Minister Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa that Iran is interfering in the Arab country’s internal affairs.

According to AFP, the Bahraini foreign minister warned Iran on Thursday to stop meddling in the recent decision made by Persian Gulf Arab states to discuss a proposal for a closer political union that could begin with Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

The Foreign Ministry official also told the Bahraini charge d’affaires that Iran hopes “the Bahraini government will adopt an appropriate approach toward the country’s developments.”

The only solution to the problems facing Bahrain is to fulfill legitimate public demands, he added.
