Assefi retires, Hosseini to be named Iran’s ambassador to Rome

TEHRAN, Dec. 16 (MNA) -- Former Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Assefi has retired and deputy foreign minister for international and legal affairs Mohammad-Ali Hosseini will take over as Iran’s ambassador to Italy, the Mehr News Agency has learnt.

Assefi, a veteran diplomat, had served in different posts. He was deputy foreign minister for parliamentary and consular affairs, special advisor to foreign minister, and Iran’s ambassador to East Germany, France and the UAE.

 

Assefi is a media figure as he acted as the Foreign Ministry spokesman under foreign minister Kamal Kharrazi for more than eight years. He kept the post of spokesman for some months under the current Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki in the early months of Ahmadinejad’s first administration.

 

Hosseini, who is set take over as Tehran’s new ambassador to Rome, also served as Foreign Ministry spokesperson for about three years under Mottaki.
