Top Cleric Calls For Fight Against Corruption

TEHRAN, June 27 (Mehr News Agency) – The Provisional Friday Prayer Leader of Tehran Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati who is also a member of the influential supervisory body of the Guardian Council of the Constitution here Friday called for serious campaign against corruption and red tape.

Delivering a Friday Prayers sermon, he said the Judiciary has taken some steps to fight corruption in the public sector, but added it is not enough.

 

The people have wholeheartedly supported the system, he said adding therefore they must not be pressured by red tape and rising prices.

 

Jannati asked the officials to curb the rising prices, saying it is not impossible to do so.

 

Prices in Iran have been spirally going up since March, marking the commencement of new Iranian calendar year. The government has been authorized by the Parliament to increase the prices of its goods and services.

 

People and some of the top officials in the opposition blame the government for rising prices.
