Hedayatullah Hamdard, the head of the Baghlan provincial natural disaster management department told AFP that at least 62 were killed in the floods in Baghlan Province alone, emphasizing that the death toll in the province will increase.
Mohammad Akram Akbari, the provincial director of natural disaster management in Badakhshan, said the mountainous province had seen "heavy financial losses in several areas... due to floods," the AFP reported.
He added that casualties were feared in Tishkan district, where flooding had blocked a road and cut off access to an area where some 20,000 people lived.
Meanwhile, a UN official working in the country said that the number of people killed in Baghlan floods exceeded 200.
Mohammad Fahmi Safi, the head of the emergency response program at the United Nations International Organization for Migration (IOM), told AFP that the death toll from the flood on Friday reached more than 200 people in Baghlan alone.
State television has also reported that 20 people have died as a result of the floods in Takhar province.
The media have also reported that thousands of homes have been destroyed.
Ghor Province has also been reported to have suffered from the floods a lot.
