Iranian, Saudi culture ministers discuss Islamic world

TEHRAN, Sept. 13 (MNA) – Iranian Culture Minister Mohammad-Hossein Safar-Harandi and Saudi Arabian opposite number Iyad Ibn Amin Madani exchanged views on the Islamic world in Jeddah on Tuesday.

Safar-Harandi is in the kingdom's main commercial seaport to attend the two-day 7th Session of the Islamic Conference of Ministers of Information that started today.

He proposed the establishment of a union for the Islamic states’ reporters with the aim of safeguarding the Islamic world’s common interests and steering the reporters toward a common view of the international affairs.

Iranian minister voiced his country’s willingness to host the first session of the union.

He pointed to enemies’ massive propaganda against the world of Islam and added, “Over the past years, the foes have inflicted heavy blows to our religious beliefs and values. However, the common enemy can bring us close together more than ever.”

Safar-Harandi maintained that most of the Western media’s news on leading Muslim states like Iran and Saudi Arabia are not true.

Saudi minister also said the Islamic world in defiance of some differences has a common identity.

“To weaken Iran means to weaken Saudi Arabia and the entire world of Islam will become weak if the duo are enfeebled,” Madani opined.

He added Iran should have a share of everything that serves the Islamic world.

Madani also welcomed his Iranian counterpart’s proposal for the setup of a reporters’ union.
