Pres. Rouhani:

Trump’s JCPOA exit "US’ worst, last option"

TEHRAN, Jun. 26 (MNA) – President Rouhani said Tue. that Donald Trump’s withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal was “America’s worst and last option” as the move came with grave consequences for the US.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani delivered a lengthy speech at a national judiciary congress on Tuesday in Tehran, discussing the US pullout from the Iran nuclear deal dubbed JCPOA and its consequences.

The resolution 2231 lifted UN sanctions against Iran, which ruined the US plan and prompted the country to attempt to make its unilateral, domestic sanctions against Iran into extra-territorial ones, Rouhani said at the congress.

He went on to add, “we reclaimed our share in the global oil market, and retook our place in the arena of trade interactions with the world; such instances of success did not sit well with the Zionists and the US.”

“The first attempt by the new US administration was to force Iran to abandon the JCPOA so that our nuclear case would once again become a security matter,” Rouhani said. “Then, they tried to pressure the IAEA to publish reports on Iran's non-compliance; this was the US best option, but our authorities foiled their plot through their resistance and vigilance.”

“The US third attempt was to persuade the European sides to quit the JCPOA, but they failed this time, too, and Washington had to pull out from the agreement unilaterally, which was their fourth and worst option, tarnishing US reputation in the world,” Rouhani said.

“Trump’s big dream was to see our immediate withdrawal from the JCPOA as soon as US pullout,” Rouhani noted.

“Trump’s withdrawal from the JCPOA was their last and worst option, which was backed by only a handful of small countries,” Rouhani said, adding that Iran’s measure in response imposed the highest costs on US for its decision to pullout from the agreement.

“The Americans thought that the moment they pulled out of the JCPOA, we would also withdraw the next day, so that they could take our case to the UN Security Council again, and rally all countries to re-impose sanctions on Iran,” said Rouhani.

The Iranian president went on to stress that “today, we are in a victorious political situation”; the US, however, is trying to break Iran’s power and resistance in another way.

"Will the US triumph in breaking our nation by waging a psychological, economic and political war?," Rouhani wondered, but immediately stressed that the Iranian nation will not give up on its objectives.
