Iranian Leader's senior Advisor for International Affairs, Ali Akbar Velayati, condemned US President Trump’s move to recognize Jerusalem al-Quds as Israel’s capital and relocate the American embassy in Tel Aviv to the holy city during a Wednesday announcement, adding “this unwarranted measure taken by an unstable person, who is ignorant of political and historical matters, is a total disregard of the historical and definitive right of the oppressed Palestinian people and a blatant violation of international resolutions.”
“Donald Trump must understand that the holy city of Quds as the first qibla of Muslims across the world will forever belong to the Palestinians,” he stressed.
Velayati vehemently censured Washington’s move, deeming it “another stain of shame on US policies” in advocating “violence, repression, undermining the oppressed people's rights, and destabilizing the region” aimed at preserving the interests of the Israeli regime.
“The move is another side of the coin in Washington’s plots for founding and sponsoring ISIL and takfiri terrorism, as well as for waging proxy wars [in the region],” he added.
“No doubt, Palestinians will continue to advance on the path of resistance [against Israel aggression] like before,” he stressed.
Velayati further called on the Islamic world and international organizations to take a stand against this “perilous move”, saying the US government and Israeli regime must be held accountable for the consequences of such a measure.
“The principled policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran has always been to support the oppressed people of Palestine and condemn the measures by the Zionist and American regimes which challenge regional and international stability,” Velayati concluded, voicing confidence that the path of resistance will continue regardless of the US recent move.
