The 25th round of the Asian Rock Climbing Competition got underway in the Iranian capital on September 18 and will run through September 21.
Iranian rock climber Reza Alipour has delivered an awe-inspiring performance at the prestigious tournament and managed to stand on top of the podium.
The Iranian athlete, who owns the world record in speed climbing, won the Asian title after clocking 5.62 seconds. Alipour was followed by Chinese and Indonesian rivals who landed second and third respectively.
The Iranian sportsman, nicknamed ‘Vertical World's Fastest Man’, said “my main rivals in the speed event were from Indonesia and China with whom I competed in the finals and managed to snatch the gold trophy.”
Speed climbing is a race in its purest form. Two contestants face each other while moving up the ice in this disciple, and the faster climber wins.
To practice the sport at the highest level of competition, it takes athletes with strategic insight, power, precision and full commitment.
