40th memorial ceremony of Dr. Shariati held in London

TEHRAN, Jul. 10 (MNA) – Memorial ceremony for Dr. Ali Shariati was held at Kanoon Tawhid in London.

The ceremony kicked off with reciting a few verses of the Holy Quran and broadcasting a clip from the funeral of late Dr. Shariati, which took place in July 1976 by the members of Kanoon Tawhid of London.

The presenter of the ceremony introduced a brief overview of the revolutionary teacher's biography from birth to death. Then the ceremony was followed by the recitation of Dr. Shariati's literary piece. The speakers were then invited to speak.

Ali Alizadeh, political and social analyst, was the first speaker who said, “we do not deal with a single issue as for Shariati, but we have different Shariatis which we need to discuss more about them.”

The researcher also pointed out that Iranian society was a poetry society, and Shariati has driven society into a positive society. He emphasized that prose-centered notion is more closely connected with thought, while the poetry-centered society deals more with emotions and hearts.

The second speaker, Mohammad Hossein Amir Hosseini, also referred to Shariati’s School of Thought, saying its basis was on the revival of cultural identity in society and since cultural identity is linked to religious traditions in some countries and societies, Shariati tried to launch the Islamic awakening in order to prove according to the present circumstances that the true Islam and Shia religion are far from impoverishment, and to present it applicably in people's lives.

Alireza Walizadeh also delivered speech at the ceremony; he said today many people are influenced by Shariati; sometimes they express their dedication to him and sometimes they recite Shariati's quotes without referring to the origin.

“Dr. Shariatī's unique influence on non-Iranians can be seen in reciting his works by one of the prominent figures of the Islamic world Dr. Ammar Nakshawani,” he added.

Ali Shariati Mazinani was an Iranian revolutionary and sociologist who focused on the sociology of religion. He is held as one of the most influential Iranian intellectuals of the 20th century.

Dr. Shariati wrote many books. In all his writings, he tried to present a clear and genuine picture of Islam. He strongly believed that if the intellectual and new generation realized the truth of this faith, attempts toward social change would be successful.
