American war crimes in Mosul should be trialed: Shamkhani

TEHRAN, Mar. 26 (MNA) – Iran’s SNSC secretary Ali Shamkhani condemned the airstrikes in Mosul which killed more than 200 civilians, describing it an act similar to behavior of terrorists who kill civilians.

“Whether this criminal act was advertent or inadvertent, either hypothesis does not lessen the responsibility of the Americans,” said Ali Shamkhani, the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, on Sunday, referring to the airstrikes that killed more than 200 Iraqi civilians in Mosul on March 17

This act of war crime is similar to the behavior of ISIL and other Takfiri groups who hit civilians and innocent people, and it should be immediately investigated in a fair court of war crimes,” underlined the Iranian senior official.

The SNSC secretary Ali Shamkhani also offered sympathies to the Iraqi government and ‘the honorable and oppressed people of Iraq’. He stressed that, “the Americans’ continuous obstructionism on the way of the army and volunteer forces willing to fight terrorism, and the logistic, intelligence, and financial support of the US and its regional allies backing terrorist groups will never be erased from the historical memory of nations and will blacken the stain on the records of the creators’ of ISIL.

Shamkhani outlined that any military operation or airstrike against terrorists within the borders of Iraq and Syria should be carried out under the permission of the legal governments of these countries. He urged the United Nations Security Council to remind those states who consider themselves superior to the UN, to respect to the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of other countries.
