Larijani calls on Iraqi groups to unite against terrorism

TEHRAN, Jul. 12 (MNA) – Iran’s Parl. speaker in a meeting with Ammar al-Hakim in Tehran called for internal unity among all political, religious and ethnic groups in Iraq in combating terrorism.

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani made the remark in a Tue. meeting with visiting President of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI) Ammar al-Hakim in the Iranian capital, Tehran, where the two sides discussed the current developments in Iraq.

Larijani further hailed the recent victories of the government, nation and Army of Iraq in the fight against ISIL terrorists, stressing that national unity is required for the complete restoration of security in the Arab country.

For his part, Hakim expressed his appreciations for the Islamic Republic’s supports of Iraqi nation and government, and presented the Iranian senior official with a report on the current situation in his country and the victories of Iraqi forces against terrorists.

He also added that efforts were being made to improve Iraq’s economic situation.

Hakim expressed confidence in the prospect of achieving full victory against terrorists in Iraq, adding “at the moment, all parts of Iraq including the Shias, Sunnis and the Kurds have come to the conclusion that for security and progress in life there is no other way than cooperation and participation with one another inside the country.”

Ammar al-Hakim, who arrived in Tehran on Sunday to confer on the situation in Iraq, has held separate meetings with President Rouhani, Foreing Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, SNSC secretary Ali Shamkhani, and Head of the Expediency Council Ayatollah Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.
