Azerbaijan eyes stronger ties with Tehran: Aliyev

TEHRAN, Jan. 21 (MNA) – Iranian President's Chief of Staff Nahavandian and Azerbaijani President Aliyev met on Thursday in Davos of Switzerland.

"We are very delighted about the new situation of Iran after the removal of sanctions," said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in his meeting with Iranian President's Chief of Staff Mohammad Nahavandian on Thursday in Swiss city of Davos.

Aliyev who like Nahavandian is in Davos attending the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting offered his greetings to the Iranian nation, government and president for the successful conclusion of Iran-West dispute over Islamic Republic’s wholly peaceful nuclear program and voiced content that the bilateral ties have been growing in the last two years and hoped for more serious measures hereafter.

"Azerbaijan is ready to develop its all-out relations with Iran as the two countries share a lot of historical, cultural, and economic commonalities," highlighted the Azerbaijani president referring to potential areas of bilateral cooperation in areas of banking, energy, investment, Astara-Astara corridor, and tourism.

Saying that terrorism is the biggest danger threatening all of the countries of the region and voiced his country’s readiness for full cooperation against violence and for peace and tranquility in the region.

During the same meeting, Nahavandian, for his part, evaluated the Tehran-Baku relations as positive and progressing and voiced content about the development of ties over the last two years.

Bearing in mind the will of officials of both countries in bolstering all-out relations and the full support provided in international communities, the path is paved for more economic and cultural relations as there is no obstacle ahead of bilateral ties, affirmed the Iranian official.
