UNSC calls off sanctions on Iran’s Bank Sepah

TEHRAN, Jan. 18 (MNA) – On 17 January 2016, the Security Council at UN Headquarters in New York, removed Iran’s Bank Sepah from the 2231 List after concluding its consideration of the de-listing request.

The United Nation’s Security Council has erased Iran’s Bank Sepah and its international branch from its sanction list following the implementation of the nuclear deal between Iran and the 5+1 group of countries.

The action was carried out on Sunday, one day after the JCPOA implementation was announced by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and European Union Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini.

Bank Sepah had been on the UN’s blacklist since 2007 over a so-called role in Iran’s missile program.

Accordingly, the measures set out in Security Council resolution 2231 (2015) adopted under Article 41 of the Charter of the United Nations no longer apply to Bank Sepah and Bank Sepah International.
