“The JCPOA is a historic achievement which underlines the importance of diplomacy and interaction in the stability of the region,” said Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Gebran Bassil on Saturday, addressing the underway core group meeting of the Munich Security Conference (MSC).
“The Vienna agreement of July 14 demonstrated the positive effects of interaction for the Middle East, and it was no surprise to us that Israeli regime fought against it, as the sole opponent of Middle East devoid of nuclear weapons,” affirmed Bassil.
The Lebanese foreign minister maintained that “the Israeli regime threatens its neighbors to prolong its life span, and that is why it never observes the rights of its neighbors.”
“The current crisis has serious international consequences, hence it has to be dealt with internationally, but on the condition of observing national sovereignty of countries and alignment with international regulations,” Bassil said while he touched upon the crisis and widening bipolarity in the Middle East.
Saying that theories like ‘collective security’ have proved inefficient, Lebanon’s chief of diplomacy described “the new forms of terrorism and intervention in domestic affairs of other countries as illegitimate ways to bridge the gap, while ousting a legitimate official of a country is never to be a solution.”
“Refugee crisis and global terrorism are the main challenges of the region,” said Bassil warning that dislocating the population of Syria would be the start of new threats.
The top Lebanese diplomat described Lebanon as a role model where all religions have reached ‘peaceful coexistence.’
He noted that complete resolution of the problem in the region should be the prior objective of the international community, as there are many security concerns over forced migration of Syrian minorities and communities with the risk of demographic disorder in the region.
The Lebanese official called upon Persian Gulf states to receive as many Syrian refugees as possible or provide financial support to hosting countries, as humanitarian responsibility of all countries demand. “There has to be long-run development program in receiving countries of the refugees,” Bassil ascertained.
He also urged an immediate response to the issue of terrorism warning that terrorists bully mass public all over the world, destroy historical heritage of nations, know no boundary for their brutality, and spread hatred in the world.
“The current war is neither among Muslim denominations, nor between Christians and Muslims, nor Christians themselves, but it is against global peace and it has to be finished for the sake of humanity,” reiterated the Lebanese minister.
