Iran’s Melbourne to vie at Romania

TEHRAN, May 09 (MNA) – Javidi’s debut is the only Iranian film this year to compete in Romania’s sole film festival.

Nima Javidi’s remarkable 2014 film which won the Golden Pyramid for Best Film in Cairo 2014 transcends cultural barriers with its compellingly universal and thoroughly engrossing premise.

The Iranian family drama opened the 71st Venice Film Festival in 2014 where it kicked off the Intl. Critics’ Week sidebar, but has since managed to confuse potential champions as it travels the circuit, the title inadvertently disguising its true cultural identity.

The film recounts the story of a seemingly ordinary middle-class couple who have one foot out the door on their way to Melbourne to continue their higher education studies. However, just a few hours before the departure of their flight, they are unintentionally involved in a tragic event.

Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF) is presented by Romanian Film Promotion. Founded in 2002, Transilvania IFF is the first international feature film festival in Romania.

The 14th round of TIFF will kick off on May 29, and will run through June 7, featuring films from eleven countries including the USA, Spain, France and Germany among others.

Screened at many international festivals including Zurich 2014, Tokyo 2014, Gijon 2014, Mar del Plata 2014, Sofia 2015, Vilnius 2015, and Istanbul 2015 the film has bagged the Best Script title in Stockholm 2014.

During these fourteen years, Transilvania IFF has become a well-known brand in Romania, not only due to the outstanding films screened every year, but also for the effective organization, sparkling atmosphere and density of events, from seminars, workshops and panels to fabulous concerts and crazy all night long parties.

In February 2011, TIFF was accredited by the FIAPF as a "competitive festival specialized on first and second feature films."
