15 water Reservoir Dams Will Go On Stream Soon

TEHRAN May 25 (MNA) -– In Iranian calendar year 1383 (March 20, 2004-March 19, 2005), 15 water reservoir dams will go on stream.

In an interview with the Mehr News Agency, Reza Ardekanian deputy Minister of Energy in Water Affairs said that Karun Dam would be operational in September.

Although the country experienced sufficient rainfalls during the current year, some regions are facing water shortfalls Ardekanian said, with drought threatening some regions.

Given Iran’s rainfall average over the past 35 years, it is estimated this year the country will receive an average rainfall, however some regions like Sistan-Baluchistan and Hormozgan will possibly experience drought.

Periodical drought is always a constant threat in Iran so contingency approaches, like drilling new water wells, are of paramount importance.

Ardekanian touched on exporting water to Kuwait explaining although the agreement to export water to Kuwait has been inked, the execution of the agreement needs parliamentary approval in both countries. An examination of the agreement is in its final stages in the Majlis.
