Sponsored by Iran’s cultural attaché’s office in Islamabad, the venues opened at the Persian Department of the university during a ceremony on Tuesday.
Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan Mashallah Shakeri, Iran’s cultural attaché Ali Aqa-Nuri, the NUML Rector Aziz Ahmad Khan, and several other university professors and officials attended the event.
The center has the capability to improve teaching of the Persian language as well as holding iranology courses and provide resources for scholars, Aqa-Nuri mentioned at the event.
After that, Aziz Ahmad Khan talked about the Persian language department as the most important section of the university saying that the donation of equipment for the department by Iran’s embassy is an honor for them.
He said that the Persian Department was established at the university in 1970 as the first language department of the venue. He called the Persian language a rich language and a spiritual heritage.
He also pointed out the cultural affinities between Iran and Pakistan saying that there are no two countries that have such a long cultural affinity.
Aziz Ahmad Khan said that the Persian language does not belong only to Iran but is the language of Pakistan as well.
Next, Shakeri made a short speech about the historical role of the Persian language in Pakistan saying that it is an honor for Iranians to witness the establishment of another center for Persian language and culture in the university.
The Iranology Center was inaugurated based on an agreement between the Cultural Consulate of the Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran and NUML.
