“The Law Enforcement Forces will deal with anyone, regardless of their status, who violates the law,” Ahmadi-Moghaddam said on Tuesday in the northeastern city of Mashhad.
Commenting on the post-election unrest, he stated, “The enemies first create ambiguity… and then turn ambiguity into sedition, and then say people have ambiguities and make judgments on behalf of the people.”
“The people who are creating sedition in society… are (also) people who chant slogans about following the Imam (Khomeini) and the revolution,” he noted.
“In such a field, where the seeds of sedition were planted, the law enforcement forces stood in a united front and defended velayat (rule of the jurisprudent), the Constitution, the people, and the Islamic Revolution.”
In an indirect reference to defeated presidential candidates Mir-Hossein Mousavi and Mahdi Karroubi, who have claimed election fraud and called for the cancellation of the election results, he said if a candidate who loses an election calls for the cancellation of the vote, then there is no use in holding elections.
Insisting on the importance of law and order in society, he stated, “In countries where there is no security, they are backward in every respect because security is the prerequisite for activities in all areas.”
In a country where there is complete security, the people are active and more cheerful, but to establish long-term security, the foundation must be laid for economic, social, and cultural activities, he noted.
Deputy National Police Chief Ahmadreza Radan told the Mehr News Agency on Tuesday that the police will “deal severely” with any “illegal gathering”.
