Iranian experts, Rosenbaum to discuss world film criticism

TEHRAN, June 6 (MNA) -- The members of the Association of Iranian Cinema Writers and Critics will attend an online video conference with the renowned American film critic Jonathan Rosenbaum.

The conference will be held on June 7 at Sureh University and is about approaches to film criticism in today’s world cinema.

 

 

Gurgin translating Peru’s “Death in the Andes

 

TEHRAN -- Fariba Gurgin is translating Mario Vargas Llosa’s “Death in the Andes” from Spanish into Persian.

 

She is also translating a 50 page appendix which contains Vargas Llosa’s comments on the Iraq-U.S. war and is also to be included in the Persian version of the novel.

 

Jorge Mario Pedro Vargas is a Peruvian writer, politician, journalist, and essayist. Vargas Llosa is one of Latin America’s most significant novelists and essayists, and one of the leading authors of his generation.

 

 

University of London to screen Iranian docs

 

TEHRAN -- The University of London will screen seven Iranian documentaries on June 6 and 7.

 

Pejman Mazaheripur’s “The Lake Which Was,” Rakhshan Bani-Etemad’s “Our Time,” Sahar Salahshur’s “Behind The Wheel Of Life,” and Sadeq Jafari’s “Consulting God” are among the films.

 

The documentaries “Days without a Calendar” and “The Other Side of Burka” by Mehrdad Oskuii and “Torgheh” by Mohammad-Hassan will also goes on screen at the university.

 

 

Cinema Sepideh to screen Russian movie

 

TEHRAN -- The cinematheque of Tehran’s Cinema Sepideh will screen “The Journey of a Young Composer” by Russian Composer Giorgi Shengelaia on Sunday.

 

Based on Otar Chkeidze’s novel “Boriaki,” the film narrates the diversity of life which can be seen in the travels of the young protagonist through an unclear, vague world of uncertainty, and by and by, acquiring the spirit of a fable.

 

 

Iranian ensemble performing traditional music in Europe

 

TEHRAN -- The Darvish Khan ensemble is performing pieces of traditional Iranian music in France and Sweden.

 

They will perform in Paris tonight and tomorrow night and will also give performances on June 27 and 28 in Stockholm and Gutenberg.

 

They are performing pieces by renowned Iranian composers that date from the Iranian Constitutional Revolution in the early 19th century to modern times. 

 

 

Iranian film to compete at Moscow festival

 

TEHRAN -- Farideh Shahsavarani’s short film “Will Be Back” will compete at the 31st Moscow International Film Festival.

 

The 8-minute film is about womanhood from a mythical point of view as well as problems a woman faces in societies.

 

The festival will run from June 19 to 28.
